Lucien Foort has developed into a well respected dj and producer with a popular progressive & tech house sound that fits well with the likes of Danny Howells, Dave Angel and Dave Clarke.
Lucien is currently working on new productions for his own labels MULTITRACKS and MELPAR which will be released in association with BlackHole Recordings. His new Funk Function track "Old Skool House Music" was released in autumn 2003 on MULTITRACKS. This time however, Lucien decided to, not only release his own productions but use the enormous amount of material he is sent each week to enrich the output of his labels through signing tracks and artists. The first track signed; Briggs&Lievense - Breakdown, will be released late 2003 on MULTITRACKS.
2003 kicked off with a worldwide tour to promote Lucien's new mixcd "SLICE!01" which was released through BlackHole Recordings. After covering Europe, the tour took him to the USA, Australia, Asia and South America. Lucien has also taken his 'SLICE'brand onto the airwaves and now has his own radioshow. "SLICE Radio" kicked off in August and can be tuned in to on every third monday from 22.00 till 24.00 on ID&T national radio.
Looking back into the history books, Lucien Foort certainly enjoyed a well-educated musical background. His parents insisted that Lucien attend music school at the early age of 9, where he went on to achieve A.M.V. music training. He spent 8 years at music school combined with 5 years saxophone and orchestra education. All this music training certainly set him up to be able to tackle the most complex of musical compositions (and career -- DJ'ing in key).
Lucien began djing at the tender age of 14, at a his cousin Stanley's house one sunday afternoon; asked if he liked it, he loved it and progressed from there. Beat Street was the first record Lucien ever bought and he was quickly on his way to spinning some great tunes. Club Carrerra in Rotterdam was the first club Lucien ever played at in 1994, from djing in his hometown to a diary full of dates all around the world.
Lucien took Holland by storm when he released "QUADROPHONIA" back in '89. This was a worldwide hit and sent Lucien around the world promoting it to all four corners of the globe. Later on Lucien became well known for his Dutch Liquid productions (with Ron Matser), which were favoured by the likes of Carl Cox, whereas his more techhouse/progressive productions were released under the name Funk Function. The Dutch Liquid and Funk Function productions have been widely played and repeatedly licensed for many Global Underground mix CDs, such as Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, John Digweed and Seb Fontaine.
When it comes to remixes Lucien has twiddled the knobs for labels such as BEDROCK, POSITIVA, POLYDOR UK, BMG UK, EMI, REACT and ADDITIVE. Lucien's remixes include DIRTY VEGAS - DAYS GO BY, APPLETON - DON'T WORRY, KOSHEEN - FACE IN A CROWD and most recenty GOLD DIGGER'S new track TRAILOR TRASH to be released on ADDITIVE in the autumn of 2003.
2001 -- Saw Lucien as a monthly resident for Sheffield based superclub GATECRASHER. He was selected to play there for his progressive/tech house sound that was a great base for other successful dj's to take the night onto complete hedonism. 2001 also saw Lucien play the main stage at DANCEVALLEY which is a real honour for and DJ, playing in front of 50,000 out of the 100,000 that attended was as Lucien states "Awesome". He was also a monthly resident for Dance Valley in IBIZA @ AMNESIA playing with the likes of Billy Nasty and Michel De Hey.
This was also the year Lucien really developed his sound and status in Australia. He appeared on the Slinky and Gatecrasher festivals throughout Australia with headliners Armin van BuurenTall Paul, De La Soul, Hybrid and Roni Size, but it was the under dogs that the Aussies really loved and on many an internet message board the following day was he being praised for his style and flair. Lucien was also credited for his ability as a DJ, when he was nominated for a Muzik Magazine award for the "Best BBC Radio One Essential Mix" category.
Lucien mixed the Fluid Recordings compilation this year with Evolution, released back in Jan '02 and licensed all over the world. Very pleased to be requested by Fluid as it has been a label that has delivered great productions that Lucien has been able to use in many a set.
Following on from appearing at many festivals and events in 2001, he was again selected to play at 2002's Homelands event. He also played in the Bedrock Arena at the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System until 6:00am when the sun was coming up. When Lucien left to return to his car he was chased by fans in the audience who were desperate to hear him spin again!
2002 -- Was also the perfect time for Lucien to focus on his productions and set things in motion for future releases on his labels. In between studio sessions and djing worldwide he had to concentrate on developing himself in America. There were many requests from promotors and Lucien finally succumbed to an offer from legendary promotor Mike Bindra to play at Vinyl in New York. Since then, Lucien repeatedly went to play in America and has found great joy in tapping into this new market.
