1. RoXY (Amsterdam)
The Era: 1987–1999
The Legacy: The "Radical Outlet for the Xenomaniac in You."
RoXY was more than a club; it was a theatrical revolution. Founded by Peter Giele, it brought House music to Amsterdam and blended it with high-art, queer culture, and absolute extravagance.

The Infamous End: In a moment of tragic irony, the club burned to the ground during Giele's funeral wake in 1999 when indoor fireworks ignited the ceiling. It never reopened, cementing its status as a legend that "burned out rather than faded away."
2. iT (Amsterdam)
The Era: 1989–2004
The Legacy: Europe’s most influential gay disco.
Located on the Rembrandtplein, iT was wild, colorful, and unapologetically flamboyant. While it was a gay club at its heart, its "open-to-all" policy created a melting pot of celebrities and ravers. It was here that DJ Jean rose to fame, defining the flamboyant Dutch club sound of the 90s.
3. Trouw (Amsterdam)
The Era: 2009–2015
The Legacy: The club that earned the first 24-hour license.
Housed in the former printing press of the Trouw newspaper, this venue redefined the industrial aesthetic. It was a space for high-concept art and marathon techno sets. Its closure in 2015 was a national day of mourning for Dutch clubbers, but it paved the way for its successor, De School.
