Blasterjaxx are Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf, a production duo from The Hague who have been one of the most recognisable names in big room and electro house for well over a decade. Jongkind started the project in 2010, and after an early line-up change Makhlaf came on board, giving the pair the crossover of electro house, big room and Latin rhythms that became their trademark.
Their breakout came quickly. The Reborn EP with D-Rashid landed on Laidback Luke's Mixmash Records and went straight to number one on the Beatport releases chart, and "Faith" charted in both the Netherlands and Sweden. They entered the DJ Mag Top 100 at number 71 in 2013 and jumped to number 13 the following year, one of the biggest leaps of that era.
In 2015 they launched their own label, Maxximize Records, which has since become the home for most of their output - "Heartbreak", "Big Bird", "God Mode", "Chupa" and "Brutal" among them - alongside collaborations with Hardwell, Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and David Guetta, and "Legion" for the Watch Dogs soundtrack. Their debut album Perspective arrived in 2019 through Maxximize and Spinnin' Records.
Makhlaf stepped back from touring in 2015 to concentrate on studio work, so the live shows are usually fronted by Jongkind, who remains a fixture at Tomorrowland, Parookaville, Ultra and EDC as well as club rooms like Bootshaus in Cologne. In 2024 the duo added THOMM, a techno-leaning alias that has let them explore darker, harder material without touching the Blasterjaxx sound their audience expects.
